Week 4 – Image 4

 

At Chiesa di San Domenico there’s a domed alcove adorned with sculptural elements in lieu of frescoes.  Reliefs of women guard the four corners filled with vines that work their way up as if reaching for grace. Windows alight the cherubs peeking through clouds at the highest apex.  Marble and stone seem weightless as the shapes of vegetation leave their shadows in the wake of the afternoon sun.
